Transferring Ownership of A Tithely Account

This guide explains the steps to change the Account Owner in a Tithely account, essential for administrators aiming for a seamless transition in account management. It details the prerequisites, such as the current owner's sole capability to make this change and the addition of the new owner as a user. For added security, the article outlines steps for cases without access to the current Account Owner, ensuring account integrity and support continuity for churches using additional Tithely services.

Learn how to change the Account Owner in your Tithely account with the necessary steps and requirements for a smooth transition.

❗ Important Note: On July 18, 2022, we renamed our User Roles for better clarity and to provide more control for those managing Tithely. Prior to this change, the Account Owner was called the "Primary Admin."

We'll walk you through the steps to change the Account Owner in your Tithely account below.

Please note, only the current Account Owner can perform this change.

Requirements to Change the Account Owner

  1. The current Account Owner is the only individual who can perform this change.

  2. The desired new account owner is added as a User.
Note: Learn how to manage Administrators and Permissions in Giving.

How to Change the Account Owner

  1. Log into Tithely as an Account Owner.

  2. Select the Global Settings icon at the bottom left corner.
Note: If you do not see the below icon, navigate to a 2.0 space.

  3. Select My Organization.

  4. Select Users.

  5. Select the Gear Icon next to the user you would like to make the Account Owner.

  6. Select the option to Switch to Account Owner.

  7. A pop-up explaining the account change will appear. Review and click Continue to move forward.

  8. Add a new billing method that will be charged moving forward.
Please Note: This is necessary even if the new account has no active, paid subscriptions.

    • At this stage, you can also update the Legal Representative if needed or skip this step if unnecessary. For multi-location churches, it will only update the Legal Representative for the oldest location you created in Tithely.

  9. Confirm the Account Owner changes.

The new Account Owner will receive an email confirming the change, and the old Account Owner will also receive an email stating they are no longer the Account Owner.
