How to Set Up Crypto Giving on Your Website with Engiven

Summary: This guide explains how to find your unique URLs for the crypto and stock giving "widgets" and add them to your church website. Following these steps will allow your congregation to donate non-cash assets like cryptocurrency and stocks.

Before You Begin

  • You must have an active Engiven account set up for your organization.
  • You must have administrator access to edit your church's website.
  • We recommend you first configure your designation funds inside your Engiven dashboard.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to your Engiven Dashboard and configure your Giving Funds.
    • You can create an unlimited number of funds for donors to choose from. We recommend mirroring the funds you already use in your Tithely environment (e.g., "General Fund," "Missions," "Building Fund").
  2. Find and copy your unique Widget URLs.
    • Your dashboard will provide you with separate, hosted webpage links (which we call "widgets") for your "Stock Giving" and "Crypto Giving" forms.
  3. Log in to your Church Website Editor and add the Links.
    • Create buttons, menu items, or a new page section, often titled "Other Ways to Give."
    • Paste the Widget URLs you copied into these buttons. This is the most critical step to ensure your congregation can find and use these giving options.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • What does the donor see? When a donor clicks your link, they are taken to a simple, secure webpage hosted by Engiven. They will choose a fund, the asset they wish to give (e.g., Bitcoin), and enter their name and email. The form will then provide them with the necessary instructions (e.g., a unique wallet address for crypto) to complete their donation.
  • Do our donors need training to give crypto? No. Crypto donors are experts. They understand how to use their own digital wallets (like Coinbase, a hardware wallet, etc.) and how to send assets to a public wallet address. We receive almost zero support requests from donors.
  • How is the crypto value calculated? Is it real-time? Yes. The widget shows a "spot price," which is the real-time value of the asset at the moment of the transaction, provided by our exchange partner, Gemini. Donors understand this price fluctuates and they are giving the asset (e.g., 0.5 Bitcoin), not a specific dollar amount.
  • What happens automatically after a donation is made? Within seconds of an asset landing in the wallet, our system automatically does three things:
    1. Sells the asset at the current market price.
    2. Sends an IRS-compliant contribution receipt to the donor on your church's behalf.
    3. Sends a notification email to your church admin.
  • What kind of gifts should we expect from this? Crypto and stock gifts are typically low-frequency, high-value donations.
