How to Use Multi-Fund Giving

Summary: This guide explains the Multi-Fund Giving feature, which allows donors to contribute to multiple funds in a single transaction. It covers how donors use the feature, how these gifts appear on bank statements, and how administrators can view and refund specific portions of the donation.

Before You Begin

  • One-Time Gifts Only: Multi-fund giving is available only for one-time donations. If a donor wishes to set up recurring gifts for multiple funds, they must set them up individually.

  • Fund Limit: A donor can split their donation across a maximum of 5 funds in a single transaction.

  • Bank Statements: While the gifts are tracked separately in Tithely, they are processed as a single transaction. The donor's bank statement will show the total amount of all gifts combined.

Step-by-Step Instructions

How Donors Use Multi-Fund Giving

  1. Navigate to the Giving Form.

  2. Enter the donation amount and select the first Fund.

  3. Click the Add another gift button located below the fund field.

  4. Select the additional Fund and enter the amount.

    • Note: You can repeat this process up to 5 times.

    • Note: As soon as a second fund is added, the "Recurring Giving" options will be automatically disabled.

  5. Complete the rest of the donation form (payment details, contact info) and Click Give to finalize the transaction.

How Admins View and Refund Multi-Fund Gifts

  1. Log in to your Tithely account and navigate to Giving > Transactions.

  2. Locate the gifts in the transaction list.

    • Each portion of the donation will be listed as an individual line item.

    • These transactions are identified by a specific Multi-Fund Icon next to the gift.

  3. Click on a specific transaction to view details.

  4. Refund a specific fund (if necessary).

    • If a donor requests a refund for only one part of their multi-fund donation (e.g., they want to refund the $25 sent to Youth but keep the $25 sent to General), you can refund just that specific line item.

    • Click the Refund button inside the individual transaction details.

    • This will mark that specific portion as refunded while leaving the other gifts in the transaction successful.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Why can't I select "Recurring Giving"? Multi-fund giving is strictly for one-time donations. If you add more than one fund to the transaction, the system automatically disables the recurring frequency options. To set up recurring gifts for multiple funds, you must create separate transactions for each one.

  • How does this affect processing fees? Because the donations are processed as a single transaction (e.g., one charge of $75 rather than three charges of $25), this reduces the per-transaction fees charged to the organization.

  • My bank statement shows one total amount, but I gave to three funds. This is expected behavior. To save on processing fees, the bank sees a single charge for the total amount. However, your giving history in Tithely and your tax statement will correctly show the breakdown of how much was given to each specific fund.

  • Why isn't Multi-fund giving available in my app? This feature is currently not available in the app and can only be found on the giving form at this time.
