Oops! I Created Duplicate Donor Accounts. What Now?

We understand that sometimes accidents happen, and you might end up with two accounts for your donations. Don't worry, it's an easy fix! Here's what you need to know and do:

1. Choose Your Main Account

Decide which account you prefer to use going forward. Consider which email address you use most often or which account holds any existing recurring donations.

2. Manage Your Recurring Giving (if applicable)

  • Cancel: If you have recurring donations set up on the account you don't want to use, be sure to cancel them.
  • Set up: If you want to continue recurring giving, set up a new plan on the account you do want to use.
  • Need help? If you're unable to access an account with recurring donations (e.g., due to a mistyped email address), your church administrator can cancel or edit your recurring donations on your behalf.

3. Contact Your Church Administrator

Reach out to your church administrator and let them know you have duplicate accounts. They can merge your profiles, combining your contact information for a single, accurate record.

Important Notes About Merging:

  • Giving History: While your contact details will be combined within your church's Tithely account, your giving history will still appear separate in your donor view. This means you'll need to check both accounts to see your complete donation record. Keep in mind, this should only be necessary for the year that you've had two accounts.
  • Tax Statements: The good news is that your church will be able to generate one tax statement with all your donations, even if they were made under different accounts.
  • Recurring Giving: Merging won't affect your recurring giving plans.

3. Enjoy a Unified Giving Experience

Once the merge is complete, you can continue supporting your church with the convenience of a single account. While you might need to check both accounts for your giving history this year, going forward, all your donations will be conveniently tracked in one place.

Tithely Tips to Tidy Up Your Accounts

To avoid accidentally using the wrong account in the future, here are a few Tithely tips:

  • Remove saved logins: Check your browser or password manager for any saved logins for the account you won't be using and remove them.
  • Log out: Make sure you're logged out of the account you no longer need on all your devices.

Can't my account just be deleted?

For security and legal reasons, accounts with donation history cannot be deleted.
