This guide is to assist in the installation of a Panini Vision E scanner on an Mac OS (Apple) device. These steps are necessary in order to use Check Scanning through Tithely.
Device Requirements
Computer
For Check Scanning to operate correctly you will need an Apple device with an updated version of Mac OS along with an internet connection. While the scanner is designed to work with various MacOS versions, it is recommended to update to the latest version as this will provide the best experience.
Check Scanner
The supported model for Check Scanning through Tithely is the Panini Vision E and this must be purchased by working with Tithely. Other devices are not supported and they should not be attempted to be used.
1. Connect your Scanner
On the back of your Check Scanner you will notice 3 ports along with the Power button:
Most customers will be using the Check Scanner in a wired configuration, which is preferred for reducing the potentials of network issues. The provided USB cable (likely a gray/white color) should be plugged in to the far right port on the Check Scanner and then connected to your computer. If you are using a USB adapter or docking station ensure that the connection is secure. If you experience any connectivity issues when using an adapter please connect the Check Scanner directly to your computer or to a powered adapter.
Once you have these cords plugged in and the USB Port connected to your computer, we will begin to
2. Power Your Scanner
Once you have the USB cable connected, you can connect the power cord, and the press the power button. You will notice the green light flashing on the top of the scanner and then it should turn solid green. You should also hear the sound of the Check Scanner going through it’s self-check process (you will hear the motor running briefly).
Your device may show a message asking for permission to connect the Check Scanner to your device. If so, please select allow.
3. Configure Scanner
Once the Check Scanner driver is connected to your computer and powered on, you will need to configure it to work correctly (and securely) with Tithely. To do this you will first navigate to http://192.168.101.1/ in your web browser.
- If for some reason this will not open, you can try https://192.168.101.1/, however http should work before you complete the full configuration.
- Depending on your browser you may receive an alert about the connection not being private. If so, please choose to continue.
When you open the Check Scanner page, you should see the scanner’s details. From the left hand menu you want to click on Configuration:
When you click on Configuration you will see the below menu options. From this menu click on Connection Parameters Setup.
Next you will see a Working Mode screen. Ensure the RNDIS (TCP/IP over USB) option is selected.
On the Connection Parameters (RNDIS mode) page, scroll to the bottom and change HTTPS from disabled to Default Certificate.
When you change the HTTPS setting you will also:
- Add vision into the Device Name field
- Click on Root CA Certificate Download (PEM Format) to download this to your computer
Note: Do NOT yet press the Set Configuration button
Install Security Certificate
Once you have downloaded the certificate, open the file from your downloads folder and choose Open to begin the installation process. There are a few possibilities for this step:
1. Add Certificate:
If your computer prompts for you to add the certificate you will change the Keychain from Local Items to “Login” and then press add.
2. Choose to open the file
On some computers you may receive an error about not having a program to open the file. If so, choose to Choose Application:
From there you will need search for keychain and then choose to open the file with the keychain.
3. Keychain automatically opens
Another possibility is that the keychain will automatically open when you open the certificate and you are prompted to enter your computer password to allow the certificate to be added.
Once the certificate has been added, open your keychain settings, select login on the left hand menu and then click on Certificates at the top.
If you do not see the Panini Certification Authority V2 certificate listed, you can search using the search bar in the upper right side of the Keychain Access window.
Once you locate the certificate, right click on Panini Certification Authority V2 and choose Get Info.
On the popup, click the dropdown for "When using this certification." It is defaulted to Use System Defaults. Click the dropdown to choose "Always Trust."
You can then close the window (red circle in the upper left), which will likely prompt for your computer password again.
Set Configuration
Once you have the certificate installed you can return to the Panini Settings page and choose to Set Configuration.
Once the configuration is saved, you will need to choose the option to reboot the scanner.
The scanner will take a few minutes to reboot, and once you see the green light turn solid, and hear the motor go through the self-check again you will know that you are ready to use it!
Once the scanner reboots the settings page may return an error and not load. Since you have just installed the security certificate you should now be able to access the page via https://192.168.101.1/ (note that the address should now have https).
Important: Your scanner can only be connected and scanning through one page at a time. If you have issues with the scanner connecting within Tithely and you have the settings page open on your browser you will want to close the settings page and then try again to connect within Tithely.
Congratulations- your scanner is now ready to be used with Check Scanning through Tithely!
