The Tithe.ly People and Elvanto sync streamlines your databases to talk to each other and automatically update information in real time. Hopefully saving you time and frustration, so you can enjoy the features of both systems without needing to maintain two individual databases.

❗ Important Note: Only the Primary Administrator on the Tithe.ly Giving account can activate the data sync.

🌟 Tithe.ly Tip: We recommend making sure that your Elvanto database is up to date before turning the sync on (details below). Additionally, if you have duplicates in either database, those will be reflected in the other one once the sync turns on (see below).

How do I turn on the data sync?

  1. Login to your Tithe.ly Admin account.

  2. Select People from the left-hand menu of the dashboard.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select Integrations.

  5. You will see an Elvanto integration there for the 2-way sync. Toggle this integration on.

What happens when I turn on the 2-way sync?

Listed below, you will see how the system goes about doing the initial sync:

  1. For conflicting data, the sync will prioritize Elvanto data over Tithe.ly People data. If a field is empty in Elvanto, while a People field of the same profile is not, no data in People will be deleted. For example, if Elvanto has no phone number for a profile, but People does for that same profile: the number will be kept in Tithe.ly People and not overridden with a blank field from Elvanto.

  2. If a profile does not exist in Tithe.ly People that does exist in Elvanto, it will be created in Tithe.ly People. In other words, if there is no match for name and email between profiles, a profile is created in Tithe.ly People. The same is true for profiles that are in Tithe.ly People but not Elvanto. A new profile will be created for the missing one in Elvanto.

  3. In the end, both Tithe.ly People and Elvanto will end up with the same amount of profiles and information for the synced fields after you turn it on (and most likely wait a couple of minutes). If you have a lot of people data to sync, please allow for extra time (for accounts with thousands of profiles to sync, this could take up to an hour).

    Please Note: The sync will bring over all your groups in the initial sync, but they will not continue to sync. This will not replace your groups in Tithe.ly People.
    🌟 Tithe.ly Tip: If you would like to ignore these groups that get brought over from Elvanto you can assign them to a group called "Elvanto Groups" in order to separate them from your existing Tithe.ly People groups.

When does the information sync?

This sync is in real time, which means you don't need to wait until end of day for your information to update. As you add and work with your people's data, the sync happens automatically across platforms.

Where will my data be stored once I turn on the sync?

If you choose to turn on the sync, your data will be housed on US servers. We are GDPR compliant across the board, and if you would like to learn more about Tithe.ly Security, please click here.

What information is automatically synced?

With the two-way People-Elvanto sync, you can perform the following actions on either platform and have those changes reflect in both places:

  • Add People

  • Update/Edit People

  • Merge People

  • Delete People

Within the profiles themselves, it will sync the following fields across:

  • Profile picture

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Email Address

  • Mobile number

  • Address Line 1

  • Address Line 2

  • City

  • State / Province

  • Zip Code / Postal Code

  • Country

  • Gender

  • DOB

  • Marital Status

  • Anniversary Date

Where should I merge duplicate profiles?

We recommend merging any duplicate profiles in Elvanto as Elvanto currently has more options for merging information than Tithe.ly People. For more information on merging people in Elvanto, click here.

What happens if I turn off the sync?

If you need to turn off the People-Elvanto sync, you must wait several hours for the sync to fully disable. If you do anything in the Tithe.ly People area (edit, add, delete, merge) before that amount of time has passed, those changes will still be reflected in Elvanto as if the sync were still on.

How will the sync affect my phone numbers stored in Tithe.ly Messaging?

We have created two separate sections in Tithe.ly People profiles for phone numbers: Core Contacts and Messaging Contacts.


Upon the initial sync, if a number does not exist in your Messaging contacts, it will be added in both the Core Contact and Messaging Contact section of the profile.

If the phone number already exists in your Messaging contacts (for example, a child's profile with their mother's mobile number), the number will only be added to the Core Contact section of the profile, and there will be no number for Messaging.
This is to prevent you from sending duplicate texts from our Messaging product while also allowing you to save a number to more than one profile in the Core Contact section.

Our team is hard at work building Tithe.ly People, and we will expand on what gets synced with Elvanto. Households, groups, and custom fields are coming soon!

My data isn't syncing properly. What do I do?

  1. Wait 5 minutes. There may be a slight delay depending on your Wi-Fi connection, or the server.

  2. If you have waited and still have an issue, please note what exactly you were trying to sync (For example, I was trying to update the ____ field for the person named _____, or I was trying to add/delete/merge X people). Then reach out to support@tithe.ly with these details along with the primary admin email for your Tithe.ly account so we can try to resolve the issue for you.
