Chat is a feature built into Groups within the Church App. Before you can start using Chat you must activate Groups. Learn more about setting up your Groups within People and adding Groups to your App, then proceed to Step One below.

Enable Chat in the App for Groups

  • After you've created your Groups in People

    • Turn on 'Show in App'

    • Turn on 'Chat in App'

    • Add Group details: location, time, frequency, etc

NOTE: The Group Type determines what data will display within the App. If you would like location, time and frequency displayed, those items must be turned on within the Group Type. Learn more about setting up your Groups within People.

Start Chatting in the App

  • Navigate to Groups within the App (must be logged in, see more details about Groups in Apps)

  • Tap on the Chat Icon 💬 in the top right of the screen

  • Choose the Group you'd like to start chatting with

Current features included within Chat:

  2. React to a message using one of the following emojis: 🎉 🙌🏼 😄 👍🏼 😂 ❤️

  3. Online Presence: member avatars change from full-colour to black and white depending on if online.

    • Online: colour

    • Offline: black and white

  4. Send a photo or video

  5. Send a gif

NOTE: This feature does not include Chat Moderation. Leaders can however remove members but messages cannot be deleted at this time.

Chat Notifications

While chat within Apps does not currently include push notifications, there are several areas to see that you have unread messages:

  1. Main Groups Page: top right chat icon 💬 with the number of unread messages.

  2. Individual Group Page: Chat button with the number of unread messages.

  3. While in an active chat, as new messages are sent users will notice a blue bar saying "X number of unread messages below."
