What you will need:

Parts of the enrollment process may change over the years, but there are 4 things that Apple has requires for over five years in order to enroll as a company, and having these ready will help to make the enrollment process more straightforward:

  1. D-U-N-S Number:

Your church must have a D-U-N-S Number so that Apple can verify your organization’s identity and legal entity status. These unique nine-digit numbers are assigned by Dun & Bradstreet and are widely used as standard business identifiers. You can check to see if your church already has a D-U-N-S Number and request one if necessary. They are free in most jurisdictions. Note that you may receive phone calls from Dun & Bradstreet in order for them to update your information. These calls are completely unrelated to Tithe.ly.

2) Legal Entity Status of Your Church:

Your church must be a legal entity so that it can enter into contracts with Apple. Apple does not accept DBAs, fictitious businesses, trade names, or branches.

3) Legal Binding Authority

The person enrolling your church in the Apple Developer Program must have the legal authority to bind your church to legal agreements. He or she must be the church’s owner/founder, an executive staff member, a senior staff member, or have legal authority granted by senior staff.

4) A Website

Your organization’s website must be publicly available and the domain name must be associated with your organization.

Sign Up For A Developer Account:

To sign up for a developer account, visit this webpage and enter the Apple ID that will always be used for your church’s app: https://developer.apple.com/enroll/

Once you sign in, you will be presented with a screen where you select the type of Developer Account that you want to sign up for. The 3 that you will want to consider are Individual, Non-Profit, or Company. The factors to take into account for each are:

  1. Individual - It tends to be much easier to apply for an individual developer account since you don’t need to jump through any hoops to prove that you are a business. The downside is that only a single Apple ID (your own) can have access. So if you set an account up this way, you must share your Apple ID with Tithely for us to be able to set your app up and submit it to Apple for you. Because of that, we advise against this option but we can work with it if you need to use the option and are willing to share your Apple ID credentials. Another disadvantage is that your name will appear as the developer under the app name on the AppStore, when it is normally preferred to have the church name there.
  2. Non-Profit - This will most likely be the most difficult to set up with Apple in order to get them all of the information that they need, but the advantage is that Apple may waive the $99/year Apple Developer fee, so if you have the necessary information to prove that you are a non-profit then this may be the best option for you. If you are able to set up this account, you will be able to have multiple developers so you can just add one of our team members to your account and you won’t need to share you Apple ID credentials with us. The developer name that appears on the AppStore will be the company’s name that you set up, which will most likely be your church.
  3. Company - This is the most common option. You will need to jump through the normal hoops that Apple requires companies to jump through to prove that you are in fact a company, but the advantage is that you can then add one of Tithe.ly’s team members to the account and we can set up your app and deploy it without the need for you to share your credentials with us. Also, the developer name that appears on the AppStore will be the company’s name that you set up, which will most likely be your church.

3) Once you select one of the 3 options listed above, Apple will list off what you need to provide them in order to enroll (it will be very similar to what you read in the “What You Will Need” section of this document if you chose “Company” or “Non-Profit”). If you have already prepared all of the items in the list, then select the blue “Continue” button at the bottom of the page:

What Comes Next:

Apple will now walk you through entering the information necessary for joining the Apple Developer Program (these are the details mentioned in the “What Your Will Need” section of this document). 

Once Apple had contacted you to let you know that you have been accepted into the Apple Developer Program, you will need to give Tithe.ly access to the account.

To give Tithe.ly the ability to deploy your church’s app, we will need access to both 2 different Apple sites:

  1. Your Apple Developer account which is where we will create necessary certifications and provision your app.
  2. iTunes Connect Account which is where we will submit the app to Apple for review.

Giving Tithe.ly Access to your Apple Developer account

To give Tithe.ly access to your developer account, please log into https://developer.apple.com and select “Account” from the top options:

After selecting “Account”, find “People” in the menu on the left and select it:

In the “People” section, select the blue “Invite People” button:

On the following screen, enter carleigh.weaver@yourgiving.co in the “Invite As Admin” field, and then select the blue “Invite” button. 

Giving Tithe.ly Access to your iTunes Connect account

To give Tithe.ly access to your iTunes Connect account, please log into https://appstoreconnect.apple.com/login using the same Apple ID credentials that you used to create your Apple Developer account.

After logging in, you will be taken to a page that shows the different areas of iTunes Connect. Please select the “Users and Roles” option:

In the top-left corner of the Users and Roles section there should be the word “Users” with a plus button next to it. Press the blue plus button. Note that in the following picture, there is a “(17)” next to the word “Users”. In your case that number may be different or may not be there at all:

You will then be taken to a page where you can enter a new user’s information. Please fill out the information like you see in the image below with:

First Name: Carleigh

Last Name: Weaver

Email: carleigh.weaver@yourgiving.co

With that information entered, press the “Next” button in the top-right corner of the screen:

After pressing “Next”, you will be presented with a screen where you choose the Role for the new account. Please make sure to check the “Admin” option which will cause all other options to be checked, and then press “Next” in the top right corner:

The next screen will give you some options for how the new account will be notified about things. Don’t change anything on this screen (it should look similar to the screen below) and instead simply press the “Save” button in the top-right corner:
